Concrete masonry sets, decorates first-ever transit hub

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (Nov 21, 2006) – The ribbon has fallen, the buses are rolling to and from the city’s first transit hub, and County Materials has gone along for the ride.

The Plymouth Metrolink Station 73 park-and-ride replaces a 65-stall parking lot with a three-level, 280-space transportation facility that offers commuters shelter and restrooms. It’s getting quite a workout this holiday shopping season, as it accommodates 11 buses and provides seamless service between Plymouth and downtown Minneapolis, according to Plymouth Mayor Judy Johnson.

The $5 million hub covers 1,100 square feet and features 5,900 structural concrete masonry units from County Materials. The company also supplied 3,350 units of Premier Ultra® Burnished masonry and 1,750 units – in three colors – of Premier Glazed® block masonry units. These decorative concrete masonry units add a highly durable but eye-appealing face to the shining jewel of Plymouth’s transportation system.

“The Premier Glazed serves as a base, to mop against, because it’s better for cleaning purposes,” said project designer Dave Selinsky of LSA Design in Minneapolis, nothing that Glazed units offer high resistance to staining, abrasion, impact and chemicals. “The Ultra Burnished makes a nice field; a nice finished surface. This has to last a long time, and this block will help us do that.”

County Materials operates 30 locations serving the Midwest. The family-owned, American company is an industry leader in the manufacture and distribution of concrete block, brick, stone, ready-mix, hollowcore, pipe, pavers, retaining walls and Aggregate Finish products for residential, commercial and municipal construction and landscaping.
